Text: History of Western Music (Donald J. Grout) Any ed. 5-7 

Description: This introductory course will provide an overview to the study of Western music history from 1600-1820. Included in this course will be representative composers, works, and genres as well as significant concepts and issues.  Emphasis will be placed on listening to selective compositions and exploring various musical devices used in each genre. There will be several listening quizzes and a final research paper covering a topic to be determined by the student and instructor.
